Organized Production
The role of producer is deceptively simple and completely essential to effective interactive design. From an early stage, I had to make decisions regarding scope, user interface, desired learning goals, and the game mechanics to back up the goals for an optimal user experience.
Throughout the process of game development, it was essential to communicate frequently with the art directors and programmer in the group to ensure everyone stayed on track, and felt comfortable doing so.
Time management is especially necessary, building a realistic schedule, reasonably partitioning the workload, and building in extra time in case
of emergency.
For this particular project, distilling the content was especially important to prevent unnecessary back-stepping to correct minute details.
Finally, being available to help with anything, from creating the opening motion graphic to troubleshooting code problems, was key to the role
of producer.
